Motorized Pass-Through Windows Built Up to 16' Wide

The Thruvue™ INFINITY Motorized Window is a motorized awning pass-through window that opens and closes from a wall switch. Concealed electric actuators lift the sash, so even a very wide, tall or hard-to-reach window opens without effort and holds at any position. Each window is built to order in thermally broken 6063 aluminum with 1" insulated glass, in sizes up to 16'0" wide by 8'0" tall and up to 72 sq ft, in the SL and EL Series.

What Is a Motorized Pass-Through Window?

A motorized pass-through window is a top-hinged awning window that swings outward and up on electric actuators instead of gas struts. Press the wall switch and the motors lift the sash; press it again and they lower it. Because the motors carry the weight, the sash can stop at any position, and large or high-mounted windows open without lifting or reaching. It's also called a motorized awning window, an electric awning window or an automated pass-through window.

How a Motorized Window Works

Electric actuators raise and lower the sash, hidden under removable motor covers that run the full height of the window. The motors and the wall switch connect directly to the motor power supply, which plugs into a receptacle supplied by others. There is no bottom track, so the opening is completely clear from side to side.

Key Benefits of Motorized Windows

A motorized window opens a whole wall at the touch of a switch. • Push-button opening and closing, with no lifting or reaching • Easy for everyone to use, including people with limited reach, grip strength or mobility and wheelchair users • Stops and holds at any position for fresh air • Handles the largest sashes, up to 72 sq ft • Ideal where the window sits high, behind a deep counter or over a sink • No grab handles needed • A clear, track-free opening with the sash overhead

Motorized Window Sizes: How Big Can They Go?

Thruvue™ INFINITY Motorized Windows are built up to 16'0" wide by 8'0" tall, with a 72 sq ft maximum, more area than the 65 sq ft limit of a gas strut window.

  • Maximum width: 16'0" (192")

  • Maximum height: 8'0" (96")

  • Maximum area: 72 sq ft

  • Size increments: any size, to ⅛"

SL or EL Series? The SL Series covers windows up to 120" wide and 45 sq ft: up to 62" tall on windows up to 96" wide, stepping down to 54" tall at 120" wide. Larger windows, and any window with a motorized screen, are built in the EL Series, up to 72 sq ft. The EL sash face is ¾" wider than the SL (3¾" vs. 3") for added structure, and EL windows use larger linear actuators.

Need it bigger? The XL - XS Motorized Window or Door reaches 20'0" wide by 10'0" tall, up to 200 sq ft. XL Series motorized windows are for windows from 73 to 100 sq ft, and XS Series windows are for windows from 101 to 200 sq ft. Transoms can be added above any motorized window.

Why Choose an Optvue Motorized Window

Every Optvue window is handcrafted to order in Oceanside, California, and engineered to look like architecture, not an add-on.

Construction and Materials

Frames and sashes are 6063 architectural-grade aluminum. The EL Series sash face is ¾" wider than the SL (3¾" vs. 3") for added structure on large windows, and EL windows use larger linear actuators. Windows ship fully assembled.

Energy Efficiency

Thermal breaks in both the frame and the sash stop heat and cold from passing through the aluminum. Standard 1" insulated glass is argon-filled with a LoE³-366 coating, and other low-E options are available for your climate.

Smooth, Push-Button Operation

Electric actuators raise and lower the sash smoothly from a wall switch and hold it at any position, so you can open it a few inches for fresh air or all the way for serving. Coming in the first quarter of 2027: Bluetooth connectivity, so you can operate the window from your mobile phone. Every motorized window ships with a first-operation notice and sash adjustment instructions.

Concealed Motors, No Handles

The motors sit under removable covers that run the full height of the window. Because the motors do the lifting, motorized windows need no grab handles.

Customize Your Motorized Window

Every motorized window is made to order. Choose each detail below, or try them live in the designer above. Prefer to lift it by hand? See the gas strut window. For a sash that pivots at a set height, see the Pivot Gas Strut Window, also available motorized. Already have a window you love? AutoMate™ motorizes outswing and fixed units from other manufacturers.

Frame Material

Wood is supplied unfinished for your stain or paint. The XL - XS Motorized Window or Door is all aluminum.

Frame Colors and Split Finishes

Choose from 14 standard powder-coat colors: Bright White, Sea Shell, Bone White, Cream, Oyster White, Brown Grey, All Taupe, Starburst Silver, Dusty Grey, Tarpaulin Grey, Iron Grey, Dark Bronze, Classic Bronze and Beyond Black. Glass Options

All glass is 1" insulated and argon-filled, tempered or laminated. • LoE³-366 over clear (standard) • LoE²-272 over clear • LoE-180 over clear • Impact glass (impact glazing): low-E laminated with a DuPont SentryGlas® interlayer. A glazing option; the window is not impact-rated. • Triple glaze for cold climates • Custom glass: tinted, frosted, textured, privacy and more

Frame Types

Three frame types fit new construction, replacement and masonry openings. • 1½" rigid nail flange for new construction • Retrofit frame for replacing an existing window • Block frame (no flange) for masonry and recessed openings

Insect Screens and Shades

Add a screen or shade to keep insects out when the window is open. • Surface mount roll-down screen, up to 90" wide • Concealed roll-down screen, up to 120" wide • Premium manual surface mount or concealed roll-down screen, up to 144" wide • Surface mount or concealed motorized screen, up to 20' wide • Motorized shade, up to 20' wide • Pleated side-to-side screen (with full bound sill) Manual 90" and 120" screens fit units up to 72" total height.

Glass Layout and Divided Lites

Keep one clean piece of glass, or add simulated divided lites in any grid. Bars run from ¾" to 6" wide, all the same width or each set individually.

Transoms

Add a fixed transom above the window at the same width and any height you choose, with its own divided-lite pattern if you like.

Motorized vs. Gas Strut Windows

Both open the same way: top-hinged, with a clear, track-free opening and the sash overhead. The difference is what does the lifting.

  • Operation: motorized opens from a wall switch; gas strut lifts by hand on factory-tuned struts

  • Open position: motorized holds at any position and opens up to 90 degrees or as much as 6" above level; gas strut opens to 90°

  • Maximum size: motorized up to 72 sq ft, or 200 sq ft with the XL - XS; gas strut up to 65 sq ft

  • Handles: motorized needs none; gas strut has exterior grab handles

  • Power: motorized needs a receptacle for its motor power supply; gas strut needs no power

  • Best for: motorized suits very wide sashes, high counters and hard-to-reach openings; gas strut suits most kitchens and bars

Motorized Windows for Homes

Motorized pass-through windows bring push-button indoor-outdoor living to kitchens, bars and great rooms. See finished projects in images and video.

Kitchen Pass-Through Windows

Open the kitchen to the patio with one switch, even when the window sits behind a deep counter or over a sink. Pair a flush or step sill with an exterior bar top for seating.

Indoor-Outdoor Bars and Outdoor Kitchens

Open the bar to the deck, the pool or the barbecue, or stop the sash part way for shade and fresh air. Add a motorized screen to keep insects out when the window is open.

Pool Houses, Lake Homes and Coastal Homes

Thermally broken frames and a full range of glass suit mountain, lake and oceanfront homes. Homes within 1 mile of salt water follow the coastal care schedule in the Optvue Care & Maintenance guide.

Commercial Motorized Windows

Restaurants and venues choose motorized windows for service counters that open and close many times a day.

Restaurants, Bars and Breweries

Turn a dining-room wall into an open-air bar or a walk-up service counter that staff open with one switch. Brand-color and split-finish frames match your design standards.

Coffee Shops, Concessions and Venues

Walk-up windows for coffee shops, concession stands, ticket booths, stadiums, resorts and event venues. Push-button operation suits high-volume counters, and the XL - XS Motorized Window or Door covers openings up to 200 sq ft.

Motorized Window Installation and Planning

Optvue motorized windows arrive fully assembled, so installation is straightforward for a professional or an experienced builder, with an electrician for the power.

Rough Opening

Order the window ½" smaller than the rough opening in both width and height.

Waterproofing

Flash and install sill pans per ASTM E2112. Custom sill pans are available.

Power and Wall Switch

Plan power before the wall is closed in. • The motors and the wall switch connect directly to the motor power supply • Provide a receptacle for the motor power supply (by others) • Your shop drawings include a wiring schematic and the wire exit location for your window

Countertop and Clearance Planning

Plan countertop height and depth, backsplash, and faucet or fixture clearance, and leave clear space above the sash when it is fully open. Because the motors do the lifting, a motorized window works well where an open sash would be hard to reach by hand.

Who Should Install It

Professional installation is recommended but not required. Basic construction experience is enough for the window itself; use a licensed electrician for the receptacle and wall switch.

Lead Time, Shipping and Delivery

Standard sizes ship in 4 weeks from signed shop drawings. Custom sizes and added features can extend lead time to 8 weeks or more, depending on how complex the design is. Express ship is available for an added fee. Read the shipment receiving instructions before delivery day.

How Your Window Ships

Windows ship fully assembled. Freight orders travel in protective wood crates by ABF Freight or an alternate carrier, and local deliveries arrive uncrated. Delivery is tailgate or curbside; oversized units (90" or more wide, or 84" or more high) need the purchaser's labor or equipment to unload.

Technical Drawings and Downloads

Download drawings and guides for your architect, builder or installer. Your shop drawings include elevations, sections and a wiring schematic for your window.

Warranty, Care and Support

Every Optvue motorized window is backed by the Optvue Limited Warranty and manufacturer support before, during and after installation. Keep your window looking new with the Optvue Care & Maintenance guide.

Warranty Coverage and Care

Insulated glass is covered for 10 years on units up to 50 sq ft. See the Optvue Limited Warranty for motor and electric actuator coverage.
